HELMET


Helmets are the most important piece of safety equipment, so choosing the right one is essential.


CHECKLIST:


  • It displays a sticker stating it complies with the Safety Standard

  • It covers your forehead and brow

  • It fits firmly without putting press

  • Your peripheral vision should not be obstructed

  • If you wear glasses check the helmet doesn’t cause pressure or impede your vision

  • Most importantly, ensure it is comfortable. Different helmets fit different shaped heads so try a range

JACKET


Motorcycle jackets are important in defining your image but it’s of even greater importance in the event of a crash. Ensure when selecting a jacket you choose safety over fashion.


CHECKLIST:


  • Choose bright colors for best visibility to other road users

  • It is loose enough to be comfortable but tight enough to keep your impact 
protectors in place and keep you warm

  • Your hips are not exposed

  • There are wrist straps to prevent the sleeves from riding up

  • It fits over clothing you would normally wear when riding

  • Seams, zips and buttons should not be in high exposure and impact points

  • Impact protectors over the elbows and shoulders

Motorcycle gloves need to protect your hands and wrists without reducing your ability to operate the controls.

  • Your entire hands and wrists are covered

  • Extra layers on the palms

  • The gloves fit snugly

  • The gloves provide at least 2.5 seconds of abrasion resistance

  • The leather is at least 0.9mm thick

  • The gloves are waterproof to ensure your hands don’t get dangerously cold

  • You can still function with gloves on changing controls or adjusting your visor

  • Impact protection for the back of the hands and knuckles

PANTS


Your legs are the part of your body most likely to sustain an impact in a crash.

  • Your entire foot, ankle and lower shin are covered

  • The boots have a minimum of 5 seconds abrasion resistance

  • The boots are waterproof to ensure your feet don’t get dangerously cold

  • Impact protection for the shins, instep, ankles and heels

  • It complies with International Standards for color 
fastness so the color won’t run

Kevin Schwantz wore the especially designed leather suit in 1995 when he fell during the first race of the World Championship series at the Phillip Island track (Australia).


Suit Safety Features


  • Selected top grain leather is specially processed and drum dyed for excellent abrasion resistance and durability.

  • Internal protection on shoulder, elbow and knee are CE approved.
